New Year's Eve 2007

Back at Dorchester Hotel's Alain Ducasse, but this time with a fixed dinner menu which was so much better than before! 2008 came while we were finishing dessert, and amidst singing of Auld Lang Syne from the other tables, we were entertained by a bag-piper who had sauntered into the restaurant while doing his rounds around the hotel. As revellers filled the sidewalks after the firework display and light drizzle, we hurried home to pop a bottle of Dom Perignon 1998 to fully usher in the new year! Bon Annee

Joss Stone, IndigO2 250707

Mother and son return to the O2's smaller venue, the IndigO2, thinking we were late and would have to tip-toe to get a view from the back - but we were happily wrong. Set very much like the Roundhouse, there was a bar at the back (where I helped myself to Beck Viers) while the stage and standing area was in such a way that I'm sure everyone got a good view from where they were standing. This would have a meant a field day for my camera, but overzealous usher/security guards kept coming around to stop people from taking photos/videos - giving out warnings and threats of expulsion from the concert. I guess all in a day's work for them, and the same went for us fellow devious photo/video taking concert-goers, as we continued to defy in such proportions that it was difficult to control. Almost like clockwork, one side of the audience would have alot of people taking photos, and then as the security went over to stop them, the other side of the audience started to light up with camera phon...

Barcelona Family Trip, July 2007

A 4 day trip to escape the horrible British weather for some proper summer sunshine in the Mediterranean. My first proper step onto the Spanish mainland, and my parents first proper step (and probably last) venture into a budget airline. Good shopping, good food and good weather were all present with the exception of good planning which meant spreading our sightseeing over a four days when they could have been squeezed into two. Then there was the mishap involving my camera, which crashed to the ground from the height of a bench after I had placed it in one of the Camper paperbags for a moment as I had wanted to change lens. The bag was bottom-light, despite being laden with shoes, and became top-heavy after I put in the camera. All I can say is thank God for filters, as the filter glass cracked and the thread was dented inwards making it impossible to remove the filter, but no harm came to the lens itself. And I could still continue using the lens, as long as I knew not to aim directl...

Justin Timberlake, O2 Arena 050707

As usual, my mother jumps at any opportunity to watch concerts while she is over in the UK and when she found out Justin Timberlake was in town, she somehow managed to persuade us to go. I seized the chance to see what the ex-Millenium Dome (recently bought over, refurbished and renamed by O2) was like and since tickets were only £55, and surprisingly still available on the day of the concert, we went but not before stopping off for lunch at Dim T near my place. On the way there we had to squeeze onto the Jubilee, my head barely making the train door and resting uncomfortably close to a female commuter's neck. We got there in good time, had a coffee and settled into what we reconfirmed were great seats! A novel concept to have a stage in the center, and although a newspaper review of the previous night's concert gave it 2 stars upon 5, complaining that one would not be able to see the symmetry of the dancers on that kind of stage, I found it very watchable and considerate in a sense th...

Big Brother UK8 Live Eviction #2

With the Big Brother House moving to Hammersmith next year, this would be the last chance to catch the housemates at their Elstree summer-home. A chance email and tickets were obtained for this event and despite the inclement weather and endless waiting/queueing, I was really excited at the prospect of being outside the house, a prospect I later found to be all too surreal - the housemates, once separated by a tv screen were now literally just a matter of minutes away. On top of that, Davina posed for me! I shouted her name as she sauntered past for the eviction and even asked me if i got the shot before walking onto the stage. And the wonderful Keith Lemon proved a riot as well, I do think he is a worth replacement for Russell Brand. Something else I noticed (along with other people) was that the house was very much smaller than it looked on tv. Just goes to show we can't believe what we see on the tube. Bring on the Summer and Big Brother 8! Get Charley

Dalmatia, Croatia: Birthday 2007

The bout of sunshine in London seemed too good to be true. So a trip was planned to the beautiful Dalmatian Coast, which hopefully would culminate in a birthday celebration whilst over there. David and company had planned a long 2-week sojourn, whereas Jo and I decided to meet them only further down the line for a shorter 1 week holiday instead. The boys had planned to come down from Split to Dubrovnik, whereas the cost of the last minute air-ticket forced me to fly to Dubrovnik first and make our way up north, hopefully meeting them in between. As most group travels go, miscommunication abounded, resulting in a quite hilarious (in retrospect) chain of events which led me to think my birthday would be celebrated on the island of Korcula (as initially planned hence making our way there) and then finding out that the boys had booked a ferry down to Dubrovnik because I had thrown the idea past them that maybe Korcula wasn't the best place for a party. Confused? Doesn't matter, it was a...

DJ Godfarter - Gas Chamber May 2007 Trance Mix

Another rainy Sunday afternoon of mixing, and I have replaced the previous set and replaced it with this new one, almost 30 minutes longer with newer more recent tracks. I start off with the Orchestral Suite as a homage to the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess which I thoroughly enjoyed completing on the Wii. After that, it's a no holds barred mash-up all the way to the end with many vocal numbers to tingle your spine and ear drums.

This is the first and hopefully won't be the last of the Gas Chamber Mixes. Hope you enjoy it and feel free to leave comments for my fledgling upload.

Paris Family Vacation 2006

With my parents up in London, we decided to get away for a short holiday (read: shopping on Champs Elysées) via the Eurostar. I had to be persuaded but only if the trip included some form of sightseeing instead of just the boutique trawling that they were after. Having been to Paris thrice prior to this and not having been into the Lourve and Orsay, I was determined not to let the opportunity slip this time despite the tight 2 day schedule. And so a compromise was met. The first day my parents went shopping while I opted to do some exploration of my own (I bought my Nabaztag/Tag from Virgin Megastore there) and at night we dined at two Michelin starred eating institution Lasserre. The next day was beautiful and sunny, and we spent it taking photographs (alot of which I have converted to black and white) while visiting the museums and other sites. It was short, but nonetheless, it was family time well spent. A trip to remember and finally some black and whites to add to the family phot...

Man Utd vs AC Milan: Ronaldo scores 1st goal

Barely 5mins into the Champions League semi-final at Old Trafford, Ronaldo's effort is poorly handled by Dida who eventually palms it into his own net sending the Fergie's Red Army into a frenzy. It was a greatest possible start but United do tend to falter when they score too early. And so it was no surprise when the brilliance of Kaka with 2 goals before half-time left us with a deficit to conquer. Of which we did. Thanks to 2 goals from a certain Wayne

Champions League: Man Utd vs AC Milan

It was supposed to be the 2nd Champions League match we would have been going to in a fortnight. And with possibly a bigger group of 5 keen to go up, we booked tickets in 3s and 2s. As luck would have it, only the 2 seater that I applied for came to made it through the 2nd ballot. Work commitments forced Joanne to take a rain-check, and so David happily took her place. And since it was only going to be the 2 of us, we decided it was best and most economical to go the Coach route instead of driving, and so we did. The fact that all the 2359 and 0130hr coaches back to London was full did not deter us. We just feared having to find shelter until the next coach we booked for which was at 0355hrs. Nonetheless, all thoughts of the long wait ahead were changed the minute we got to our seats. The view was much better than when we watched Roma and the fact that we managed to cram some beers before kick-off did us good too. And when the match started until it ended, it was an emotional rollercoa...

Man Utd v Roma: Celebrations as Rooney scores 3rd goal

Wayne Rooney scores in the 19th minute to make the Red Devils go 3 up on the way to an eventual 7-1 routing! All thoughts of an unnerving match because of the first leg loss in Rome are banished as everyone shouts themselves hoarse cheering the boy wonder as he breaks the duck in successive matches following a European goal drought since his first and last (a hat-trick against Fernabache) in 2004.

Champions League: Man Utd vs Roma

The end of the English football season was nearing. Yet David having held the Man Utd membership had not once set foot at his Footballing Mecca. Match ticket memberships were going at £10 for what few matches were left for the season, a bargain! So the rest of us each got a membership to support the greatest football team for the remainder of the season. After fooling David and Jo into thinking we were unsuccessful in getting the ballot, we looked forward to the 10th of April, the day of reckoning after Roma had beaten us in the first leg a week earlier, wondering if we would be witness to the final nail in Man Utd's European coffin. Instead we bore witness to the pre-match crowd trouble between the two fans, causing the Megastore to be closed (hence I couldn't get my jersey, although a Cantona shirt and Champions League scarf isn't half bad). The atmosphere was terrific as the match started but i swear there was an unnerving tension whenever Roma (or Totti) touched the ball, knowing a...

Champions League: Chelsea v Levski Sofia

My second Champions League match but my first Chelsea one. Excited to bring my mother to Stamford Bridge, and so the three of us made our way on a pleasant winter's night to watch the Blues hopefully dish out what would be a routine trashing against the bottom team in their Champions League Group, even though they had already qualified. It must have been the fact that the match was being broadcast on terrestrial television plus the fact that Chelsea had nothing to play for. The stadium and crowd were quieter than normal, with only bits of cheering here and there in the West Stand. What a stark contrast to the Aston Villa game just not long ago! Still two goals by two players whose futures are uncertain at the club, Shevchenko and Shaun-Wright Phillips, put the game to rest towars the end of each half. There could have been more goals. I wish there were, but in the end two were enough. And after that we decided not to wait for the tube and took a pleasant walk home, stopping off at Tesc...

Christina Aguilera "Back to Basics" 291106

A New Week, A New Gig. This one though had been coming for a long time. My mother was adamant about going to see Christina in action and incessantly reminded me to check for tickets day after day. And when I finally did, was shocked to see them costing £90 each, and that was at face value! So we headed for Wembley Arena again, this time with my father, who has not been to the newly refurbished stadium since a Phil Collins concert almost a decade ago? We were expecting hot, fiery, dirrty Christina, but with the advent of her new double album, we saw a much more demure version tonight. Her sexy tunes were replaced by fresher remixed versions which was interesting to say the least. Then there were the costume changes which seemed endless? But one thing's for sure, this girl sure has the vocal capability and a body to boot. So what if her new songs are not as danceable and catchy? I just came for the voice and body, in a bottle, baby.

Scissor Sisters "Ta-Dah" Tour 261106

Since we had missed the Scissor Sisters' sold-out Halloween gig, it was inevitable that when Jo read that they were going to be playing this weekend we knew this was too good an opportunity to pass up. And it seemed like Destiny had a part to play when She handed Jon the O.C Soundtrack. It was as if She made him fall in love with Better than Ezra's "Juicy" which subsequently allowed him to appreciate the similar sound that was the Scissor Sisters. With Fate on our side, we rushed off after watching the Man Utd Chelsea match to Wembley Arena for the Final night of the "Ta-Dah" UK Tour. The prospect of seeing Lily Allen again as the opening act was truly the icing as we arrived in good timing free from the crowds. When we were seated, I couldn't believe the sheer positive energy that was radiating from everybody, no doubt aided by the 'Camper' sex. Even after Lily Allen had ended, the crowd continued being up for it, singing along as the DJ played "Cant Take My Eyes of You" on top of a r...
