for everyone
I would not have known that the London Jazz Festival was going to be held this month if I had not chanced upon it in the newspaper. So once I got home that day, I immediately scoured the website to see which of the jazz greats would be performing this year. Herbie Hancock was the first that caught my eye, and also one of those which had already been sold out. Naturally, I was disappointed but still I phoned the box office, and between an ebay auction for 3 tickets (that ended £30 above face value), I was encouraged to phone closer to the date should there be late releases. Imagine my elation when 2 days later I checked the website to find new tickets released! I was so excited that I didnt even check the confirmation email, only until the day of the event when I realised the email i had mistaken for it was the confirmation for another gig i was going to. Had I accidentally not purchased my tickets? The box office hotline was closed and a hundred and one things went through my mind as I envisaged not being able to watch this jazz great. I almost didnt want to make the trip down, thinking it would be a wasted journey. Thank goodness I did. It was a mistake by them for holding my tickets and not sending them out. Nonetheless, I was happy everything straightened out at the end.

am i the only one fascinated by his flashy white keyboard, which is slung over his body like a guitar?

and the way he played all those rapid running semiquavers! brilliant wash of colour.

Thought the group dynamics was amazing, especially in the last two sets.

his flashy white keyboard
yeah so was i. it might have just become one of his trademarks but i think what it does is it brings the music/performance closer to the audience, allowing them to see the improvisations and fingers dancing on the keyboard rather than the restricted side-viewing of him sitting at a piano/keyboard.

as such we can now appreciate this visual element to jazz piano, which had once been reserved only for the drummers, bassists, trumpeters, etc

at the same time still dictating the tempo from his high stool
